Anxiety has a way of creeping up on some of us. I use to keep things bottled up inside, but there is nothing wrong with admitting that sometimes we do go through the motions. Well… I don’t want to go through it alone anymore. Anxiety is one of those “hush hush” topics, and you never know what response you are going to get when you confide in someone. That’s fine. Sometimes, people just don’t know how to address it, and that is why I am here today, addressing some common themes.
So. You have anxiety. You’re not alone! The world is not crumbling—just in that instance. Breathe. Count. Breathe. Count. Breathe. You will be okay soon enough. Normally if I get anxiety, I am over-stimulated, uncomfortable, or in a high stress situation. In these cases, I try to remove myself from the trigger. Take a walk. Get some fresh air and clear your head. It’s okay to walk away from things that are triggering your anxiety. Essential oils also help! If you get anxiety often, carry a little bottle and breathe it in when you suddenly tense up. I use an essential oil diffuser every night and it’s really calming. My favorite scents are: eucalyptus, peppermint, and lavender!
Now. You know someone with anxiety. You’re not alone! Your world is not crumbling, but theirs is. You can help. Be there. Listen. Tell them things will be okay. Hold them. Sometimes a hug is all we need. DO NOT. Do not tell someone to get over it or that you don’t know what to tell them. And if you do tell them things will be okay, don’t let that be the only thing you say before you walk away or end the conversation.
